The 61-year-old star was diagnosed with the disease in March and admitted she went through a "very harrowing" six weeks of radiation treatment, but she is now concentrating on increasing awareness of the condition.

She said: "I went through six weeks radiation, which was very harrowing. But the radiation is over, I'm scot-free for the grace of Gods ... so cancer-schmancer!

"But I really want to bring awareness to this and now I am full blown working in charge of working for all breast cancer charities because it is a serious disease that affects millions of women."

The model felt "numb" when she was given the awful diagnosis and admitted she worried about informing her kids Nathan, 29, and Savannah, 22, because she knew they wouldn't take the news very well.

She said: "In the beginning I was in a state of numbness... I was truly - not denial or pity - but I just walked around feeling kind of numb because I was afraid for my children. I was afraid how my two grown children would take the news and they were very upset.

"And then I went through a period where I thought I wasn't going to be attractive to my fiance."

Janice - who is engaged to Dr. Robert 'Rocky' Gerner - wasn't checking her breasts herself before her diagnosis but is now encouraging women to make sure they do so regularly.

Speaking on ITV's 'This Morning', she added: "For the nine months previous I wasn't feeling like the [usual] me, something was off inside my psyche.

"I went to my doctors and I asked her to do a series of tests and I asked her to do a manual breast examination and she found a lump ... she said 'something doesn't feel right'.

"So I went through a battery of tests ... and it's for this reason that I appear in front of you today to share my experience. I implore all women to go get their breast examined and do it themselves."

When asked if she had been checking herself beforehand, she replied: "I had not, up until this point been doing regular check-ups. I went for the mammograms, but I wasn't feeling my breasts."
