Sue Kolinsky has admitted there was often "tension" between the former couple - who filed for divorce in December 2005, three years after tying the knot - on the set of the MTV show, which documented their relationship, and the pair were simply "too different" to be together.

She told Complex: "You could feel there was tension between the two of them.

"They were very different people. He was a blue collar guy -- he did a lot of things himself, like he and his brother would build things. He was frugal, and she had excessive taste. In the end they weren't suited for each other."

While Sue admits the couple - whose show finished in March 2005, just nine months before they filed for divorce - did like the same music, they differed when it came to discussing the possibility of having kids with each other.

She added: "The only thing they really had in common was their music. She was really young; I think he's seven years older than her.

"He wanted a family, and her father thought maybe she was too young. Her father was very involved in her life."

After divorcing Nick, 43, in 2006, Jessica, 37, went on to marry her current husband Eric Johnson, 37, in 2014, and the couple have two kids, daughter Maxwell, five, and three-year-old son Ace.
