Jodie Kidd thinks Erin O'Connor is going to make a brilliant mother.

The British model is thrilled her close friend is expecting her first child and says the baby is going to be extremely "lucky" because Erin is such a maternal figure.

Speaking at the launch of French luxury skincare brand Caudalie's first London boutique in Covent Garden, Jodie exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I'm so excited. I love her to bits. She's one of the most big-hearted, warm and lovely people to have a friend, so to have her as a mother, it's going to be a very lucky baby. I think she'll be alright, because she's such a lovely person."

Erin shocked fans by showing off her baby bump at InStyle magazine's Best of British Talent pre-BAFTA party in London last week, but has yet to comment on her pregnancy or reveal the name of her mystery boyfriend.

Jodie also hinted Erin's pregnancy wouldn't affect her role as a mentor on the UK edition of Naomi Campbell's modelling show, 'The Face'.

Quizzed whether her pal was now unlikely to return, the 35-year-old star replied: "I don't think it will affect her... What's great about 'The Face' is the format, it really works. "

Jodie is making a comeback after quitting modelling the early 2000s to forge a career as a race car driver and a polo player, and believes the fashion industry is more "safe" these days.

She explained: "It's changed. I think when I was at the height of my career, it was a really amazing British, edgy and cool vibe. I think it's become a bit safe. Whereas we were really cutting edge and just dominating. We've lost a bit of that."

The statuesque star admitted there was pressure for the new generation of models to keep up with social media, but she isn't fazed about joining in.

She laughed: "Social media has taken over. Do I look like I'm tweeting? I'm dreadful, I have a Twitter but I don't update it. I forget. It's all part of the new, modern, technological era."

Jodie and stars including Lisa Snowdon and Daisy Lowe joined Caudalie founders Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas at the VIP opening of their first ever UK boutique in London on Monday night (10.02.14).
