The 39-year-old actor was forced to depart the History Channel show because of the "physical demands of the role" in the eight-episode military drama.

A source told Us Weekly magazine that Joe will be fine as his exit is due to a "manageable pre-existing condition".

Production on the show has now been delayed while producers draft in a replacement to portray Rip Taggert, the leader of a group of Navy SEALS on a mission to eliminate a Taliban leader.

It is not yet known when things will get moving again on the set in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Barry Sloane, Dominic Adams, Edwin Hodge, Kyle Schmidt, and Juan Pablo Raba are all part of the cast of the drama series.

The 'Magic Mike' actor - who is married to Sofia Vergara - previously opened up about his struggles with addiction and is convinced he was "born" with a problem.

He said recently: "I think addicts are born wired a certain way. But alcohol was not the issue for me - the issues were all internal. The drink just helped me to quell all the ill feelings I could remember having since I was a child. I was an addict before I ever picked up a drink."
