The 'Moving On and Getting Over' singer - who previously dated the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson and Taylor Swift - insists he is currently happy to be single, but he would like a female companion to go on road trips with.

He told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres: "I thought of this on Valentine's Day: You don't have to be with someone to be together, and I'm enjoying being together...

"There's a total thing I've had in flashes and want more of.

"The world is your Oyster, you drive, right? You have those moments.

"You still road trip on weekends? It's great. That's what I miss - I miss plans, I miss stuff. A man can drive to Big Sur on his own, but how lonely is that?"

John's latest EP, 'The Search for Everything: Wave Two' features a sketch of a mystery girl on the cover and he admitted she is the "spiritual" representation of his dream woman.

He said: "That's sort of like her, the spiritual her, it's memory, it's fantasy, it's the other. The spiritual sort of other. In my mind, one way or another. That's sort of the representation of her..."

The 39-year-old singer/songwriter is a big fan of TV show 'The Bachelor' but insists he doesn't have time to commit to watching it any more.

He said: "I love the show, but it's too much time to ask of me -- two hours is a lot of time.

I always watch the season premiere and they go, 'An unbelievable new Bachelor ...' and I'm like, 'Give me more of this'. I would pay $50 if you just show me the entire season in 30 minutes.

"Get me the helicopters, girls crying, girls crying on helicopters. "If you get tears in flight, that is prime stuff."

And Ellen suggested John himself should take part in the show, but he isn't convinced.

He said: "I think it would be really fun to be the Bachelor... but I don't think I would find love on there unless they changed the vetting process for who is the contestants."

When Ellen suggested they would change the process for him, he quipped: "I think it would be one of the lowest-rated shows."
