The 44-year-old actor reprised his role as Dr. 'Bones' McCoy for the third film reboot of the 'Star Trek' franchise and admitted he couldn't resist looting for iconic mementos when the cameras stopped rolling.

He confessed to BANG Showbiz: "Did I steal anything? I may have yes... I might have stolen a Starfleet insignia."

After working on three movies in the film series together, Karl has developed a close bond with Zachary Quinto - who portrays Spock - and appreciates the way his friend works.

He said: "We had a great time working with each other, a lot of fun and I think we grew closer as a result and came to really appreciate each other's approach."

Karl was thrilled when he got co-star and writer Simon Pegg's script for the new movie because he had a bigger role to play and fans will get to see a more "well-developed" Bones.

He explained: "I was really happy when I read the script; I get a lot more to do in this film. I think that the fans came out of the last one and made their voices known that they wanted more and thankfully Simon listened to them and I got some fun stuff to do. It's one of the most well developed version of the character out of the three films."
