Nicole Scherzinger thinks people "lose themselves to relationships" and often invest more than they should in their partner instead of living for themselves.
She told The Sun newspaper's Fabulous magazine - which will be available on November 17: "Through the heartache it's been liberating. People lose themselves to relationships. You're living for the other person, putting so much in that you have to take a step back. Do things for yourself."
Nicole wants to achieve more in her career before she settles down and has children because she plans to raise her children herself, like her mother Rosemary Elikolani did.
She added: "I definitely want kids - but not for a few years. My kids are going to be raised by me, the way my mum raised me.
"So I need to get my stuff out - albums, world tours, movies - and then try to do that."
