Liam Gallagher has received his first solo BRIT Awards nomination, while his older brother Noel Gallagher was snubbed.

Former Oasis lead singer Liam will compete against Ed Sheeran, Loyle Carner, Rag'n'Bone Man and Stormzy for British Male Solo Artist at this year's awards on February 21.

He already has six wins and 17 nominations as part of Oasis, including an Outstanding Contribution to Music Award in 2007 and BRITs Album of 30 Years in 2010, but this is his first ever nomination as a solo artist.

Liam released his debut solo album 'As You Were' in October and it topped the charts, selling 103,000 units in its first week.

Noel hit number one with his latest High Flying Birds album 'Who Built the Moon?' in November, but he sold less units than Liam during his first week, with just 78,000.

Liam, 45, and Noel, 50, have been locked in a bitter feud ever since Oasis split in 2009 when Noel walked out on the band after an argument.

And although Liam has been desperate for a reunion, he recently claimed the reason Noel isn't keen on reforming the band is because his wife Sara McDonald - whom he married in 2011 - won't let him.

Liam told Q magazine: "He's a liar. He's desperate to get Oasis back but he knows he's crossed that bridge, and he's not allowed to, his missus won't let him now, cos she's another one.

"I know for a fact, deep down, he wants to be playing stadiums with this thing. He's never gonna get that with that stuff he's making, cos he's not got that thing, you can only play stadiums when I'm there. He's greedy, he's selfish and that's the way it is. I don't think our kid's got it in him anymore anyway, it seems to me like he's playing to the snobs and the world and the toffs."

Meanwhile, Dua Lipa leads the BRITs nominations with five, while Ed Sheeran follows with nods in four categories.

J Hus and Rag'n'Bone Man have three each, while there are two nominations each for Stormzy, Loyle Carner, Little Mix and Clean Bandit.

The BRIT Awards 2018 take place at London's O2 Arena on 21 February and will be broadcast live on ITV.
