The US President pardoned over 100 people during his last day in office on Tuesday (19.01.21), including the 38-year-old rap star, who previously pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a loaded weapon on a private jet.

The chart-topping music star is a convicted felon, following a gun charge back in 2007, and was facing the possibility of a 10-year spell in prison.

However, Wayne has now received a pardon from the billionaire businessman, having previously endorsed Trump for reelection.

Last year, he wrote on Twitter: "Just had a great meeting with @realdonaldtrump @potus besides what he’s done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership. He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done (sic)"

Wayne's tweet included a picture of the two of them together and prompted a backlash from some of his followers.

By contrast, fellow hip-hop star Cardi B has been an outspoken critic of the President over recent months.

The 28-year-old rap star blasted Trump in an interview last year, describing him as an ineffectual leader.

The 'WAP' hitmaker said: "Those people that he caters [to], he’s not going to do anything for them. It’s not like Republicans are getting better housing. It’s not like Republicans are getting better benefits. They’re not.

"He’s not doing anything for anybody. He’s just saying things that appease the same people."

Cardi hopes new President Joe Biden will adopt an entirely different approach.

She explained: "I want a president who makes me feel secure. I want a president who understands the pain of the people. I want a president who is going to give us answers.

"That’s why I like [New York governor Andrew] Cuomo. I like him because he makes me feel like he’s listening to me."
