The two friends - who shot to fame with their 1997 collaboration 'Good Will Hunting' poked fun at some of their past work as they picked up the Guys of the Decade award at the ceremony, which took place at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California.

Ben, 43, said: "I think it goes without saying that this is an award Matt and I have been dreaming about since we were little boys.

"I did 'Gigli' and Matt did that Liberace movie ['Behind the Candelabra'] and all of a sudden it all seemed out of reach. Then I did ['Batman v Superman'] and all of a sudden it was back in reach again.

"Now we're the ... coveted Dudes of the Decade ... the Guys of the D**kheads? What is it?"

Matt, 45, added: "No, the D**kheads of the Decade award."

The pals were spotted backstage mingling with other guests, with Matt chatting to Julia Roberts and Robert De Niro while Ben had a "great talk" with Shilo Harris, an Army veteran who became a motivational speaker and writer following injuries during an explosion.

Shilo told People magazine: "He was a great man. He asked me what I do, and I told him that I was a motivational speaker, and that recently we've been combatting the epidemic of veteran suicides."

Asked if Ben would help with his work with veterans, he added: "I don't know, but you know what, I kept talking and he kept listening. So I'm very proud of that."

Spike TV's 10th Annual Guys Choice Awards air on June 9.
