Dina Lohan and Michael Lohan's relationship is "getting better and better" since they went on 'Family Therapy with Dr. Jenn'.

The former couple - the parents of Lindsay Lohan - endured a bitter split and eventual divorce in 2007 after 22 years of marriage and had a strained relationship in the following years due to Michael's behaviour and substance abuse issues.

Dina and Michael have been able to get on good terms in the last couple of years and now they've been on the show they have finally dealt with the final issue between them, the reality that the 55-year-old matriarch was the victim of "domestic abuse".

Dina told the New York Post newspaper: "I've been a victim of domestic abuse for years and I kept it quiet, but all four of my children were behind me to do (the show). It's pretty heavy-duty at times ... I've been to the emergency room more than once. In the beginning (of therapy), Michael wasn't admitting things, but as time went on, the doctors got him to come to his admission of what really happened. It didn't just affect me but it affected my children.

Michael is also grateful for the help he has received from Dr. Jenn Mann and says the therapy sessions have helped him repair his relationship with Lindsay, 29, Michael Jr., 28, Aliana, 22, and Dakota, 19.

Michael - whose two young kids with estranged wife Kate Major, 33, are currently under the guardianship his mother - said: "My relationship with the kids has improved tremendously. A lot of the bitterness I had from our divorce I kind of let go of and I guess (Dina) did too ... We started to really become a family again.

"(Our relationship) is going in a direction I don't want to really discuss, but it's getting better and better."

And Dina has not ruled out the possibility of the pair potentially rekindling their relationship.

When asked if they could get back together, she said: "We're not talking about that!"

She also said: "We still have issues obviously we're working towards. Child support, trust issues but time will heal and trust (is rebuilding)."

'Family Therapy with Dr. Jenn' airs in the US on VH1 on Wednesday (16.03.16).
