The 52-year-old actor, his girlfriend Anna Lundberg, and their 17-month-old daughter Lyra have all tested positive for coronavirus, and he has admitted their health battle has been “very difficult and quite scary”.

Posting on social media to mark International Women’s Day – where he also praised his 21-year-old daughter Lily, whom he has with his ex Kate Beckinsale – Michael wrote: I’ve spent the last few weeks laid low by COVID. It’s been very difficult & quite scary. “On #InternationalWomensDay I want to thank all the incredible women-Anna, Mum, Lily, Joanne, my friends & all the women I am lucky enough to have support me who’ve helped me through this. (sic)”

Anna, 26, then confirmed on her Instagram account that both she and her young daughter have also tested positive, and said that whilst it’s been “challenging” for the whole family, they are now beginning to feel better.

She wrote: “Yes, we've all been dealing with THE virus the last few weeks. Michael and Lyra caught it first and then, inevitably, so did I. It's been very challenging for all of us but luckily we're all much better now than we were. Thankfully I was lucky to only have relatively mild symptoms, which meant that I could keep focusing on Lyra and Michael. I'm extremely grateful for our recovery and the support we've had from friends and family. X (sic)”

Michael and Anna welcomed Lyra in September 2019, two months after they shared their pregnancy news to their social media followers.

In August that year, the ‘Good Omens’ star cleared up speculation about his relationship timeline with Anna, when he insisted he has “more important things to focus on”.

He wrote on Twitter: "Wouldn't normally respond to this kind of thing but for the sake of people I love and who have more important things to focus on right now.

“I was single from the beginning of last summer until I met my partner Anna who is now going to have our baby. Just for the record. Thanks."
