The Simply Red singer took to his Twitter account on Thursday (04.08.16) to share with his 12,300 followers the importance of protecting the flying insect from deadly pesticides so they can continue to cross-pollinate and help the world's crops and wild plants survive.

He wrote: "The Scientific community must work together to create Bee friendly pesticides. For the sake of life on Earth, we MUST #SaveTheBees (sic)"

The 'If You Don't Know Me By Now' hitmaker - who has eight-year-old daughter Romy with his wife Gabriella Wesberry - spends a lot of time in Catania, Sicily in Italy where produces wines under the label 'II Cantante'.

He is also a keen fisherman when he's not performing with his band.

Meanwhile, the flame-haired soul star recently admitted Simply Red's 11th studio LP 'Big Love', which was released in May 2015, could be their last record as a band.

Before it was released, he said: "I do have the feeling I've reached a sort of end point. I'm very happy in my life, my focus is my family and actually enjoying what I have. I never thought I'd get to this place. I never thought I'd actually ever get to be happy."

The 54-year-old musician believes the latest LP with the group is a "very personal collection of songs," which has been inspired by his marriage to long-term girlfriend Gabriella in 2010, their daughter Romy, and his late father, who brought him up on her own but passed away six years ago.

He explained: "The idea started out to mark the 30th anniversary of Simply Red but it turned into this very personal collection of songs."

And due to the emotional nature of the tracks, the 'Holding Back the Years' hitmaker confessed is unsure whether he will ever be able to perform them live without breaking down in tears.

Speaking about one specific song 'Dad', he said: "I don't know how I'm ever going to sing this song live. I don't think I could get through it without crying."
