Whether she’s known for her heavy eyebrows, goofy facial expressions, or carefree spirit, Cara Delevingne has become a household name in the last few years.

Cara Delevingne

After being catapulted into the modelling world by Burberry’s Christopher Bailey (he scouted her whilst she was working part time in an office), her career has gone from strength to strength. Featuring in advertising campaigns and strutting the catwalk for top fashion and beauty brands, Delevingne became renowned as a modern ‘supermodel’ who didn’t take herself too seriously and encouraged her fans to “express their weirdness”.

Despite her success in the world of fashion, she frequently expressed in interviews her dream of becoming an actress, stating that music and film were her real passions.  Her dream soon became a reality and Cara now has a number of films under her belt, most recently co-starring in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, the action-adventure fantasy film by noted directed Luc Besson. Valerian is out NOW on Digital Download, DVD and Blu-Ray and to celebrate the release, we’ve taken a look at Cara’s flourishing career in film.

Anna Karenina (2012)

Cara’s first film role was in the film adaptation of period drama Anna Karenia.  She stated that working with noted director Joe Wright was “a dream come true” and she gained helpful advice from the rest of the stellar cast, which included Keira Knightly, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jude Law.

The Face of an Angel (2014)

Inspired by the novel Angel Face, The Face of an Angel was a fictional account of the real-life murder of Meredith Kercher  - the British student who was killed whilst on an exchange in Italy. Cara played Elizabeth, the character loosely based on Meredith. The director stated that he cast Cara as she “embodies certain qualities, an idea of optimism, the spirit of happiness and energy, and all the things that these people have lost because of [Meredith's] absence".

Paper Towns (2015)

She then co-starred along-side Nat Wolff in the comedy-drama film Paper Towns, based on the popular novel of the same name. The author John Green stated that her audition ”blew everyone away” and he was “so excited” about her joining the cast. Cara won three Teen Choice Awards for her role as the adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman, including Choice Summer and Choice Movie: Breakout Star.

Suicide Squad (2016)

Securing another big budget blockbuster, Cara went on to feature in DC Comic’s first ‘anti-hero’ superhero film. Suicide squad boasted a star-studded cast, including Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davies, and Jared Leto. Cara was cast as Enchantress, an archaeologist who is possessed by an evil sorceress. The film was nominated for and won multiple awards, including an Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Kids in Love (2016)

The British coming of age drama follows Jack (Will Poulter) during his gap year in London. Cara plays the free-spirited Viola, who, along with the beautiful Evelyn (Alma Jodorowsky), shows Jack the bohemian, fun side of London. The film proved to be popular among young adult audiences, despite its limited budget and four week filming schedule!

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)

Based on the French comic books by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets follows Valerian (Dane Dehaan) and Laureline (Delevingne) as special operatives for the government charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Dehaan established a breezy rapport with his co-star early on. “It’s important the relationship feel so alive off-set. Cara has this vivacious energy, so it’s easy to fall under her spell”. Set in the year 2740, the mission takes place in the breath-taking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the galaxy. The film was praised for its action-packed scenes and dazzling visuals.
