Naomi Campbell says Kate Moss is her "little sister".

Naomi Campbell insists there was never any rivalry between her and Kate Moss and says the pair are so close she considers Kate her "little sister".

The 43-year-old supermodel has written a touching piece to honour her best friend Kate's 40th birthday in today's (16.01.14) London Evening Standard newspaper, in which she shares details of their 22-year friendship and insists there was never any bitching or backstabbing between the two British catwalk queens.

She gushed: "She's like my little sister, and 40 or not she's still my little sister ... I'm proud of Kate, I'm very proud of her, I think what she's done and what she's still doing is phenomenal.

"There was never any jealousy between us. We were always supportive of each other and happy for one another. I respect her husband Jamie tremendously; I love him. Kate is also an amazing mother."

Naomi - who first met Kate in Los Angeles in 1992 when she was 18 and Kate was 15 - says they bonded over their no-nonsense natures and mutual support, regardless of where they were in the word.

She said: "She's honest, loyal and straightforward. There's no bulls**t. She's not pretentious in any way. What you see is what you get. I love that about her.

"Kate and I were a backbone of support for each other. We'd meet after work for dinner, we'd go out. We talked about boys, as girls do, and the boys we'd met. Once we were with a person we'd still see each other. If her birthday was in LA, I'd go there. If mine was in New York, she'd come from wherever she was."
