Nina Dobrev was bullied when she was younger.
The 'Vampire Diaries' star was "awkward" while at school, and got picked on for her haircut and looks.
She told E! news: "I had a couple of awkward stages. Now we have hair and makeup. I pay professionals. But you didn't have professionals when you were grade three.
"I had a chunky face. I had a phase where I cut my hair like a boy so kids will find anything to pick on you for whether it's true or not because it makes them feel better and bigger and it isn't until you're the victim that you realise that it's not fun and it's not cool... Until you learn, you can hurt a lot of people."
Now free of any teenage awkwardness, the 24-year-old star is rumoured to have rekindled her romance with her 'Vampire Diaries' co-star, Ian Somerhalder, after a six-week fling with 'Dancing with the Stars' professional dancer Derek Hough which ended last month.
Nina had dated Ian for three years before they split, and a source said their original breakup was amicable.
A source said: "There was no mean spiritedness behind of either of their motives for ending it.
"The relationship kind of brewed out of a friendship and the fact that they had to get into a romance for the show. The breakup was inevitable.
"I think she decided she wanted to experience other things."
