Orlando Bloom has thanked Joan Rivers for giving him a warm welcome after moving into the same building as her.

The Brit actor, who announced his split from Miranda Kerr after three years of marriage last week, is renting a new bachelor pad in New York City, and the 'Fashion Police' host Rivers, purchased him a cake to officially welcome him to the neighbourhood.

The 80-year-old comedian tweeted about her excitement to be living beside the actor and was photographed leaving her apartment on Tuesday (29.10.13) holding a white sign that read: "Welcome Orlando to the hood!"

But she later revealed she was forced to give the cake away and tweeted: "Orlando wasn't home so I gave the cake to the paparazzi. Best line I heard: 'If you can't trust a cake from Joan Rivers, who can you trust?' "

The 36-year-old actor, who is starring in the new Broadway production of 'Romeo & Juliet,' was clearly impressed with Joan's kind gesture as according to UsMagazine he responded with his own sign on Friday, that read: "Thanks for the warm welcome Joan, darling. Come see me on Broadway!"

The star recently opened about his split from Australian supermodel Miranda, with whom he has a two-year-old son, Flynn, and insisted he will always love her.

He said: "We're a family. We're going to be in each other's lives for the rest of our lives. There's no question that, you know, for the sake of our son and everything else, we're going to support one another and love each other as parents to Flynn."
