Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom wore matching Tamagotchis to the Met Gala last night (02.05.16) - but the singer's electronic pet died.

The loved-up couple were keen to make a romantic fashion statement at the glamorous event, hosted by Anna Wintour and held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, by attaching the handheld digital pets, which require you to virtually feed it and play with it in order for it to survive, to their garments.

However, Katy was seemingly "too busy" to give her portable pet the tender, love and care it needed and it tragically died.

Taking to her Twitter account to share news of her bereavement, the brunette beauty tweeted: "I think my tamagotchi just shat itself to death #busy #tech #metgala (sic)"

Despite its sudden death, which was no doubt made apparent by its regular bleeping, Katy and Orlando - who walked the red carpet separately - refused to take off the gadgets, made popular in the mid-90s, and even wore it for the wild post-award party at Up and Down nightclub afterwards.

The pair - who were first romantically linked during this year's Golden Globes - made their relationship status apparent when they were spotted locking lips during a vacation to San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California, in March.

Katy, 31, and 39-year-old Orlando - who has five-year-old son Flynn with ex-wife Miranda Kerr - have seemingly taken their relationship to the next level as they each have keys to one another's homes.
