The 42-year-old pundit and his wife Kate welcomed son Cree into the world six months ago and the former footballer - who also has Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and Tia, 10, with late wife Rebecca - admitted he's thankful coronavirus restrictions meant he wasn't out of the house as much as he usually is so has been around the tot all the time.

He said: "He's great. We're all delighted and happy. Having a lockdown baby means that you're there a lot more as a parent. You can't go out and work as you would do before, which has been great. He's been a great addition to our family."

And Rio has also had the opportunity to hang out more with his older kids over the last year.

He told OK! magazine: "There are obviously a lot of negatives that have come with the pandemic and different families have gone through different things.

"We've tried to draw on the positives and I think that's been the ability to spend more time together and get to understand each other more.

"We all lead busy lifestyles, whether that's the children with their clubs after school or us with our work.

"So we've been able to do lots more stuff together, from walking the dogs to making sure that the kids have got all their chores under control."

When he has a day off from work at the moment, the former England captain admitted his perfect day would involve just being around his family.

He said: "A perfect day off for me would be to go for a walk with the kids and the dogs and then come back for one of Kate's roast dinners. Then chill out on the sofa and watch the football or a movie."
