The ‘Blurred Lines’ hitmaker – who is now engaged to April Love Geary – split from Paula in 2014 after almost a decade of marriage, and has said that whilst their was “so much emotion” behind their breakup, they’ve now formed a healthier bond as friends and co-parents to their 10-year-old son Julian.

He said: "There's so much emotion when you first break up, and there's so much stuff that spills over. But time heals those wounds, and she's an incredible person.

“Once you can put yourself second, your son rises to the top and you go, 'It's not about us anymore.’ We're very lucky the way everything has worked out."

Since their split, Robin – who also has Mia, two, Lola, 23 months, and Luca, two months, with April – and Paula have worked on building a solid system of “communication” and “transparency”, and are now co-parenting at their “very best”.

He added: "[We’ve] never been better. [We have a system of] communication and transparency.

“We're co-parenting at our very best, and it shows in Julian's results. He's thriving and has really blossomed this last year. He's so devoted to school. He's the opposite of me: I was the class clown in the back row. He's in the front of class and loves going to school.

"Maybe he's not my son! But no, I'm the proudest father because he really is that kind of kid at home."

And despite the age difference between Julian and his three younger siblings, Robin says his eldest son is the best big brother.

Speaking to People magazine, he gushed: "He plays games with them, and they'll sit and watch a movie with them. I can't even get them to sit and watch a movie! He's just so involved and excited by the possibilities of life. That's what you want to try to do as a parent."
