The 'Stay With Me' hitmaker stopped by the Barakat Gallery in London's Mayfair, which specialises in ancient art, last week to snap up some of the historic objects after being inspired by Adam Lambert - who has always been obsessed with Egyptian culture - following their meeting in New York.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Adam's passion has rubbed off on Sam. His first tattoo was the Egyptian Eye of Horus, which he got right before 'American Idol' to "protect" hit on the show. The first thing Sam did when he got back to the UK was check out the pieces in the gallery."

Sam's recent splurge comes just after he quit Twitter following the furore sparked by his claim he was the first homosexual man to win an Oscar, which he made on stage as he collected his Best Original Song Academy Award for his James Bond theme 'Writing's on the Wall' last month.

The 23-year-old singer's utterance was rubbished by screenwriter Dustin Lance Black - who is engaged to British Olympic diver Tom Daley - who pointed out to him on Twitter he won the Best Original Screenplay Academy Award in 2009 for 'Milk'.

Sam apologised for his error but then decided to leave the social media site, tweeting: "I'm logging off for a while. Some Martinis shaken not stirred are definitely in order."

But, although his professional life has taken a plunge in recent weeks, Sam's love life seems to be on the climb.

He has gone on a date with bisexual Franklin Lane singer TayTay Starhz, with the pair spotted together in London at the Freedom Bar and then nightclub XXL.
