The 58-year-old music mogul was rushed to hospital last October after taking a tumble at his London home and though there "wasn't anything wrong" with him, the 'Britain's Got Talent' host sees the incident as a blessing in disguise because it's made him find more of a "balance" in his life.

He said: "In a weird way it was a wake up call, because it wasn't the end of the world, it was a bit embarrassing, but I will never hear a bad word about the NHS. I mean, these people were unbelievable..

"The good thing is, you have almost an MOT when that happens, you have every possible test. There wasn't anything wrong.

"I was probably overtired, but I feel better this year than I did this time last year, not so many meetings, not so many late night calls, bit more of a balance."

Though Simon's young son Eric - who he has with girlfriend Lauren Silverman - is only four years old, he is already looking ahead to the future and is "training up" the youngster to eventually take over from him as a judge on 'Britain's Got Talent'.

Speaking on UK TV show 'Lorraine', he said: "I look at things through his eyes now, I want to spend more time with him. I'm lucky because he likes the show, so he comes down to the shows with me, because I'm sort of training him up...I'd love him to take over."

Last December, Simon previously admitted the lifestyle changes he'd planned after his fall weren't really going according to plan.

He said: "Up to that point, I was working flat out. Now I've quietened down a bit and I'm sleeping better. I'm not going to lie though - whenever I'm seen out it's with a cigarette and a beer in my hand. So I think I've been rumbled as far as that goes."
