The 67-year-old singer dated her band mate, 68, for three months in 1979 while they were recording their twelfth studio album 'Tusk' but, after they broke up and he began dating her married best friend Sara, their relationship in the studio was strained and she turned to other vices to help her deal with the "strange atmosphere."

She explained to Mojo magazine: "My affair with Mick went on for the first three months of 'Tusk'.

"We broke up, my best friend Sara fell in love with him and that just turned into a nightmare.

"She moved in with Mick overnight and I got a call from Sara's husband telling me the news.

"Neither of them bothered to tell me. I went up and sat up on the mountain for three hours and watched my life pass before me, then I had to get up the next day, get dressed and go into work, and not ever look at Mick for months.

"It was horrible, horrible, months of sitting in that [recording] room, five days a week, all day long, and all night sometimes, sitting on the couch just watching, writing in my journal and watching some more, and crocheting scarves by the dozen, it was a very strange atmosphere."

Meanwhile, Stevie and Mick recently got back together with their band mates Lindsey Buckingham and John and Christine McVie to tour as Fleetwood Mac once again, but despite being on the road together, the 'Edge of Seventeen' hitmaker said they still all irritate one another.

She said previously: "We know exactly what to say when we really want to throw a dagger in."
