The 50-year-old actress became the first woman of colour to pick up the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series prize at the Primetime Emmy Awards last night (20.09.15) but admitted she would have been just as thrilled if the 'Empire' star had won the award.

She said: "Taraji P. Henson, and it's very, very, very rare to find this in the business. She is the most supportive actress you can possibly imagine, supportive in ways you can't even begin to understand, and is genuine.

"I've been in this business close to 30 years, and I would put her at the top of this list in terms of support.

"We just whispered to each other, whoever gets it, it's great, it's wonderful and I love you."

And Viola - who has four-year-old daughter Genesis with husband Julius Tennon - admitted she was particularly happy to be congratulated by newly-single Jon Hamm, who was also a winner last night, taking home Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series.

Asked whose congratulations she had appreciated, she replied: "Jon Hamm! He's pretty handsome... I'm excited when anyone congratulates me."
