Speaking on the steps of the High Court in London today (May 17th, 2022), Jamie Vardy blasted Wayne Rooney and accused him of talking "nonsense" whilst giving evidence as part of the ongoing Wagatha Christie trial.

In court, Mr Rooney claimed that he had asked Mr Vardy to tell his wife, Rebekah Vardy, to "calm down" during the 2016 Euros. Mr Rooney said that the exchange was "awkward", but he had a sit down with Mr Vardy in private in a games room.

Mr Vardy hit back outside the court, saying: "Wayne is talking nonsense. He must be confused because he never spoke to me about issues concerning Becky's media work at Euro 2016. There was nothing to speak about, I know this because I discuss everything with Becky."

This latest disagreement comes as part of the long and bitter rivalry between Mrs Vardy and Mr Rooney's wife, Coleen Rooney, who had accused Mrs Vardy of leaking stories to the media, about her private life, in October 2019.

Mrs Rooney came to the conclusion that it was "Rebekah Vardy's account" responsible for the leaks, after carrying out her own investigations over a month, using Instagram Stories to post fake stories and seeing which would make their way into the news.

Mr Rooney said in court today, that he wasn't aware of the 'sting operation' at the time, but noticed his wife's frustration over the leaked stories. He himself, "didn't want to get involved".

He added: "I'm not big on social media and I didn't want to get involved. My wife is an independent woman who does her own thing and I didn't want to get involved in what the situation was."

The trial continues. Mrs Vardy is suing Mrs Rooney for libel, with legal costs for both parties expected to individually exceed any damages that may be rewarded. Whoever comes out as the winner is only likely to get around 70% of their court costs back as, each side are likely going to be spending in excess of £1 million.
