The 58-year-old actor stars alongside Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall in the long-awaited comedy movie, and Wesley hopes it'll put him in the frame for other high-profile film roles.

Wesley - whose previous movies include 'New Jack City' and 'White Men Can't Jump' - said: "I think we’ll remind people of my range.

"But don’t just rely on one project. I’m past that. We just keep doing the work, and hope that over time the body of work will reflect the quality of our skills and abilities."

Wesley is having to reestablish himself in the movie business after a three-year imprisonment for tax offences.

Asked if he's recently felt shunned by Hollywood, the film star - who was released in 2013 - told The Independent: "That was 10 years ago.

"Most of us don’t even remember it. Trial and tribulation is supposed to give you great insight and help you grow. The measure of a man is not how he handles things when all is cushy, but how he manages misfortune."

Wesley thinks he's been forced to show his resilient nature during his time in the movie business, and in his life generally.

However, the film star suggested he's learned from his negative life experiences.

He shared: "I’ve had the trials of growing up in 1975 in the Bronx, the heights of working with Spike Lee and Mike Jackson, to the months on the road, to being taken away from my family for a few months, and then coming back even stronger.

"When you throw your ass in the fire and don’t learn that it can burn you, that’s your fault."
