The two stars will front the star-studded spin off of the popular 1960s dating show - which originally ran from 1965 to 1973 - for ABC, who have promised the eight-episode series will be a "wry wink at modern dating".

ABC said: "Offering a spin on the classic dating show, the celebrity guests will remain a mystery as one lucky suitor is chosen from a hidden panel of three bachelors and/or bachelorettes based on their answers to the celebrity’s questions."

Non-famous suitors will have the opportunity to guess the secret identity of the celebrity contestant thanks to clues, questions and even parody performances from the 67-year-old crooner, who will also serve as executive producer on the new series.

Alongside an announcement for the new show, Michael wrote on Instagram: "Classic and beloved gameshow coming back with a musical twist from yours truly!!!(sic)"

The 'New Girl' actress is "so excited" about her new job.

Zooey, 41, wrote on her own Instagram account: "So excited to announce that I'll be hosting #TheCelebrityDatingGame alongside Michael Bolton on @ABCNetwork!

"What is it, you ask? Why, it's the classic dating game you know and love but with a modern spin! Michael and I will be matchmakers, setting up hopeful daters and surprise celebrity suitors. Catch me soon on @DatingGameABC!

'The Celebrity Dating Game' is the latest in a long line of rebooted game shows for ABC, which also broadcasts 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune', 'Supermarket Sweep', 'Press Your Luck', 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' and 'Match Game'.

The show will tape in Los Angeles but a premiere date has yet to be set.
