Hayley Buchanan

Hayley Buchanan

After Hayley Buchanan was the latest model hopeful to be eliminated from Britain’s Next Top Model this week, we caught up with the Scottish stunner to chat about her time on the show, floundering underwater, and the Scottish Fashion Awards.

Hey Hayley, how are you? What have you been up to since leaving Britain’s Next Top Model?

I’m good thanks! And I’ve been back up in Glasgow and I’ve been really busy up here working with fashion magazines which are based up here and I’ve been nominated for Scottish Model Of The Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards so it’s really exciting!

Wow, that’s awesome! It’s quite a shock that you went from the show because over the past couple of weeks you’ve got great feedback…

I was a shock but then it wasn’t a shock after I’d seen my photo because I did have a really week photo that week, I just couldn’t handle the challenge of being underwater at all and I just couldn’t just get the shot but I was hoping that because I was quite strong in the competition before that they would give me another chance because they did with some of the other girls but it was my time to go I guess…

Oh no! Was the underwater shoot the hardest thing you’ve done then?

Yeah, I think it was the hardest part of the whole show. I think it was because we had such a long dress on and the material was so heavy and them my wig got caught on Louis’ head peice that was in the water too and I started panicking that I was drowning!

Oh no, bad times. But also Monday night saw it all kick of between Mecia and Ashley; how did that happen?

Oh my god, I actually thought Ashley was going to push Mecia down the stairs at one point, that’s how bad it got! It was just, you know what girls are like… Viola said something to Mecia and then Mecia said it to Annaliese and then she told Ashley and then it all turned into a big fight… I think it was really just stress that called it all, like being in the house and not speaking to your family got everyone to boiling point. I don’t really think it was a big thing people just needed to get stress off their shoulders.

Oh crikey! Right, you also did a photoshoot for Faith shoes, show did you find that?

I actually find that one quite hard as well because my brief was that I has a big flowing skirt on and these massive heels and I was stamping and tango dancing down these antique stairs and my problem was that I was so scared that I was going to fall over that I kept looking down and I was really nervous about it!

I was so looking forward to that as well because it was the most amazing prize and the girls, Ashley and Sophie, are in the stores and on the website already now! I was quite gutted that I got a harder brief than the other girls, but oh well, that’s how it goes.

And if you could have chosen someone to go in your place on Monday, who would it be?

I think I’d have to say Annaliese because I think everyone else in the competition is really strong and I think Annaliese will do so well with her strong personality, but I can see her being more of a presenter or personality rather than modelling. I know she’ll do well but I think out of the girls that were left I would have said her.

And who would you like to see win?

I would love to see Mecia win, she was there for me all the time and she was my best friend in the house and she’s had amazing and consistent photos.

Aww, that’s sweet, so what will you be up to over the next few months?

Well I have the fashion awards at the end of June so we’ll see how the nominations turn out with that. But at the moment I’ve just moved into a flat in Glasgow so I’m based up here and I’ve been working quite a lot with the fashion industry up here. I might come down to London at some point over the summer but I’m not too sure… we’ll have to see where it goes.

Awesome, and finally, what was the highlight of this series of Britain’s Next Top Model for you?

Oh, there are so many! I think I have two, but I’d say being in Iceland for the photoshoot and just standing in the blue lagoon and being shot by Huggy. It was just the most amazing moment of my life and it was so surreal. So either that or winning the interviewing challenge with Louise Redknapp!

Oh well, it’s been lovely speaking to you, best of luck with everything hun!
