Prize provider: MUBI

The global curated streaming service MUBI are delighted to announce that the critically-acclaimed debut feature from Kantemir Balagov, BEANPOLE will be available on Blu-ray from 7 September 2020 and can now be pre-ordered.

The winner of the Un Certain Regard directing prize at the 2019 Cannes International Film Festival,  BEANPOLE received its UK premiere at the London Film Festival and following its debut on MUBI in October 2019, it was shortlisted for the Best International Feature Award at the 2020 Academy Awards.

Set in 1945 in Leningrad, World War II has devastated the city, demolishing its buildings and leaving its citizens in tatters, physically and mentally. Two young women, Iya and Masha, search for meaning and hope in the struggle to rebuild their lives amongst the ruins.

BEANPOLE is an entrancing immersion into post-war turmoil and a towering ode to female resilience—with tour-de-force performances and a jaw-dropping use of colour.

Question: What city is Beanpole set in?

  1. Moscow
  2. Leningrad
  3. Minsk
