Often in your dreams, you feel like you can do anything. But what does it mean when you end having a run in with the police when you're sound asleep? There are a few significant meanings behind having handcuffs slapped on your wrists...

One theory that comes up time and time again is that it represents being forced to change your habits or behaviour. This could be do to with giving up an addictive substance, improving your bad temper or trying to stay on the right side of the law. Alternatively, it could be something as simple as needing to take care of your diet, or trying to be more sensitive to other people's feelings.

That idea sort of goes hand in hand with the suggestion that this dream represents having problems with self-restraint. Perhaps you need to rein it in more, and learn to be a little less impulsive.

Alternatively, if the cops are after you in your dream, if might be because you are having to do what people expect of you in the real world, whether you agree with it or not. Are you being asked to set aside your moral code in the workplace? Are you unhappy in a relationship of convenience rather than of love?

For some, this dream could be telling you that you've done something wrong and you've been found out, or you're about to be. It could also mean that you're finally ready to hold your hands up and do the right thing, accepting the consequences of your actions.

Conversely, perhaps you're feeling a sense of injustice in your life, or a lack of fairness. A situation that's been causing you a lot of grief may finally be coming to an end.

But what if the shoe's on the other foot? If you're arresting someone else in your dream, perhaps you're being a little domineering over someone else and need to learn to cool off.
