Air Gun

In a visually astonishing landmark series WWII Lost Films History presents the story of the war ? viewed through the eyes of 12 Americans who fought in or contributed to the war effort.  Featuring extraordinary rare colour footage that was transferred to HD, this original landmark 10-hour series is one of the channel’s most aspiring and ambitious projects to date.

An exhaustive worldwide search for colour footage was launched by History in order to create this monumental ten-part series, with researchers based in the UK and America; thus creating WWII Lost Films. The series draws upon more than 3,000 hours of World War II footage unearthed from archives and private collections across the globe. History preserved and restored this footage - some of which had never been seen before.

WWII Lost Films incorporates diaries, journals, interviews and Dolby "soundscape" featuring striking visuals against a backdrop of war, usually only viewed through black-and-white newsreel footage, transforming it into something viscerally real, relatable and newly relevant. The intention is for viewers to encounter what war was actually like for those who were there and experience it firsthand.
The series accompanies servicemen, war correspondents and medical personnel throughout the war. These eye witness accounts are obtained from original sources and new interviews which are delivered with emotional impact by Hollywood actors including Rob Lowe and LL Cool J.

We are introduced to 12 Americans who served in the war representing an array of wartime experiences - including war reporter Robert Sherrod who served from the beginning of the war in North America to the liberation camps in Germany, the famed Tuskegee Airmen and Jimmie Kanaya who is the son of Japanese immigrants serving in the U.S. Army and imprisoned in Europe.

On History weeknights from Monday 12th April to Friday 23rd April inclusive at 10pm
