Russell Simmons always supports the drug addiction charity fundraiser

Russell Simmons and actress Eliza Dushku were among the stars who turned out to show their support for a drug addiction charity fundraiser in New York City on Monday night.

Boardwalk Empire star Michael Kenneth Williams and Simmons' girlfriend, Australian actress Melissa George, were also in attendance at the Caron Renaissance Save a Life Benefit, which was held at Capitale to raise money for the Lifesaver scholarship fund to provide rehab services for addicts unable to pay for treatment themselves.

The event was co-hosted by Simmons and U.S. reality TV star Kelly Bensimon, and saw John F. Kennedy's nephew, actor and activist Christopher Kennedy Lawford, share his own past experience with drug and alcohol addiction with the audience.

Speaking about his involvement in the Caron Renaissance organisation, Simmons said: "I'm a big fan of the work they do and I come every year... I'm happy to support them."

And actor Williams admitted he had a personal reason for backing the cause.

He told WENN: "For me, I'm here to support (the charity) because it helps people suffering from drug addiction, which is something I've gone through myself, so it's very personal for me."
