The Sopranos creator David Chase is set to be honoured with the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television.

He will be awarded the honour at the Producers Guild of America Awards on 24 January in Hollywood.

The producer/writer, who already has three PGA Awards, will join the likes of Jerry Bruckheimer, Aaron Spelling and David E. Kelley among the recipients of the coveted honour.

A spokesman for the Producers Guild says, "His (Chase) shows have always charted new territory and entertained audiences while maintaining the highest level of quality in the industry."

The Sopranos ended last year after six years of huge critical acclaim.
