The 'Grease' star, 61, was keen to take on the 38-year-old hunk in a dance competition at the Oscar Awards in Los Angeles to prove he's got better moves than him on the floor.

When asked if John and his wife Kelly Preston were up for taking on Benedict on the dance floor, the former model, 52, replied: "Throwing down the gauntlet now, huh?"

John then added to 'Good Morning Britain': "We'll take him."

Meanwhile, the Hollywood ceremony was a success for the Brits in the Best Actor category with Eddie Redmayne, 33, picking up the impressive gong for his role in 'The Theory of Everything.'

However, the women weren't so lucky in the Best Actress section as both Rosamund Pike, 36, and Felicity Jones, 31, were snubbed in favour of US starlet Julianne Moore from 'Still Alice.'

Although, according to Cineworld - the UK's leading cinema chain - 43 per cent of their Unlimited Card Holders wanted Rosamund to take home the award for her role in 'Gone Girl'.

While nearly a third thought Felicity deserved to win for her part in 'The Theory of Everything.'
