Tennis Osaka wins in Osaka has a really nice feel to it for a headline and luckily that is exactly how it panned out as two-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka won her first-ever title on home soil.

The 21-year-old saw off the challenge of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, beating the Russian 6-2, 6-3 to win her second trophy of the 2019 season.

Osaka, whose only other previous title this year came at the Australian Open, finished runner-up in the previous two editions in Osaka.

"It is really special for me to win here (in Osaka). This is the city where I was born. I think that gave me a lot of power to play constantly match after match," the Japanese player said.

She added: "I just wanted to win this really bad.

"I think what I learned from this tournament is just to focus every point, and just to have really positive energy."
