Cricket

England wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor has retired from international cricket in order to focus on her mental health.

The 30-year-old has been struggling with anxiety and took a break from the game in 2016, but returned the following year and starred as England won the World Cup.

However, she has decided it is the right time to hang up her England gloves.

"This has been a tough decision but I know it’s the right one, for me and for my health moving forward. I can’t thank my teammates enough, both past and present, and the ECB for being supporters and friends along my journey," Taylor said.

"Playing for England and getting to wear the shirt for so long has been a dream come true and I have been blessed with so many great moments. From making my debut in 2006, to Ashes wins, and of course the World Cup final at Lord’s, to name just a few. I’ve also been blessed with travelling the world and making lifelong friends. I can’t wait to see the heights that this team can reach."

Back on the pitch, Australia have taken a 1-0 lead in their three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka after winning the opener by 41 runs.

In a high-scoring affair in Sydney, the Southern Stars amassed a massive 217 for four on the back of Beth Mooney's brilliant 113 from 61 balls.

But if the hosts thought Sri Lanka would fall quickly then they were wide off the mark as Chamari Attapatu also hit 113 (66 balls) as the visitors managed 176 for seven in reply.

Over in India, the hosts lead their five-match T20 series against South Africa 1-0, but it has been a soggy affair so far.

After India won the low-scoring opening match by 11 runs on the back of Harmanpreet Kaur's 34-ball 43 and Deepti Sharma three for eight, the second and third T20s were then washed out.

Golf

World No 12 Carlota Ciganda ended her title drought in style as she won the Mediterranean Ladies Open on home soil in Spain.

Solheim Cup winner Ciganda, whose last win came in 2016, carded a closing round of 71 to finish on eight-under-par at the Terramar Golf Club in Sitges, one shot ahead of Esther Henseleit.

"I’m very happy to win in Spain, with all the people here," she said. "It was a tough day and to be honest, it was very windy, with some crazy gusts on the course.

"I played pretty solid and tried to make the fairways, hit the greens and make a few putts. I played the par fives pretty good but I knew people were going to make mistakes, because it was playing quite tough."

Over on the LPGA Tour, Mi Jung Hur won her second title of the year as she went wire-to-wire with a four-shot victory at the Indy Women in Tech Championship at Brickyard Crossing in Indiana.

The South Korean fired a final round of four-under-par 68 to finish on 21-under with Nanna Koerstz Madsen second.

Tennis

Aryna Sabalenka was the big winner on the WTA Tour this weekend as she successfully defended her Wuhan Open in China with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over American Alison Riske.

"I can't believe that I defend this title. I couldn't even imagine that I will be able to do this. Right now I'm just happy. I don't know. I can't believe it's happened," world No 14 Sabalenka said.

"This means a lot. This year been really tough for everyone. I was really afraid that I will be not able to defend this title. I was already saving my points on the beginning of this year. This was my problem. That's why I couldn't work well, couldn't play well, couldn't fight actually.

"Finally to defend this title, I couldn't even imagine it's going to happened. Right now, it's so many thoughts going through my mind. I'm really thankful to my team because they keep staying with me."
