If any of us thought the drama and controversy surrounding the announced plans to create a European Super League (ESL) was going to go away within 24 hours, we were silly to do so. Now, British comedian and American chat show host James Corden has waded into the debate.

Taking some time out of The Late Late Show, Corden spoke in a monologue about how he felt “heartbroken” after hearing the plans for the ESL, referring to it as “disgusting” and saying what has been on the mind of countless fans across the globe.

The clip has now gone viral:

Fans of the beautiful game have rallied behind Corden’s message, pointing out that whether or not you’re a fan of Corden as a chat show host, an actor, performer or anything else, he’s speaking sense here.

Now, the ball is quite literally in the court of those owners who look to be putting profit before the people who love this sport. Will greed continue to be their priority, or will they protect the sanctity of the game?

Meanwhile, Aldi have called on Marks & Spencers to join them in raising money for cancer charities. They’ve asked the supermarket brand to drop their court case against them, instead raising money for a deserving cause rather than lawyers to fight on their behalf.

Aldi have also reached out to Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose and the Co-op, asking them to get involved.

Will Colin and Cuthbert become besties, raising money for charity whilst doing so? Or are M&S going to shoot themselves in the foot by ploughing ahead with the proposed court case? Time will tell…

Finally, Annie Mac announced today that after 17 years, her time on BBC Radio 1 was coming to an end.

"I need more time to see my kids in the evenings now they are both in school," she explained, also pointing out that she wanted to move into writing fiction and creating podcasts over hosting her own show.

We’re sure that weeknights aren’t ever going to be the same without her, but we completely support Mac in her decision. May she see future success in every avenue she treads!

MORE FROM SOCIAL BUZZ: European Super League has the world talking

Anybody else need something to distract them from the mindblowing cliffhanger at the end of this week’s (April 18th, 2021) episode of BBC drama Line of Duty?

Don’t worry, the world of football has come swooping in with one of the most dividing announcements in modern-day history: the arrival of a European ‘Super League’ (ESL)…
