The lengths that brands go to in an attempt to steal the spotlight on April Fools' Day is nothing short of admirable. Even though their jokes and pranks are becoming less believable as the years go by, we still sometimes fall for their ridiculous announcements and can't help but laugh when we see what they've come up with.

Here's a roundup of some of the best gags pulled by brands, celebrities and those in the spotlight as part of April Fools' Day 2022. Unfortunately, the energy crisis isn't one of them...

Take to the skies with Aldi: Beloved supermarket chain Aldi took to social media this morning, claiming that they were expanding their business into the airline sector with the aptly-named, ALDIAIR.

They even told one Twitter user that all flights would come with "complimentary carrots" - a nice nod to their adored Kevin the Carrot mascot, who makes annual appearances at Christmas.

Neighbours is back! Except it isn't: Fans of long-running Australian soap Neighbours were left fuming when Aussie show TV Tonight pranked their viewers, claiming that the soap had been saved and wouldn't be axed after all. Perhaps the cruelest prank of the day.

Laura Tobin's acting falls short: It may be one of the most obvious April Fools we've seen, but Laura Tobin 'dropping' the one and only plant that is part of a five-year breeding program on Good Morning Britain is still worth a watch. From the look on her face, to the expert storming off following the 'accident', it's all a bit cringe, but still very funny.

The one we wish wasn't a prank: Walkers have actually got us feeling pretty sad with their prank, because who wouldn't want to munch down on a giant, bread-shaped cheese and onion crisp? Perhaps if they see a lot of interest for this product, they may actually make it a reality?

Rylan gets yet another gig: Alexa is one of the most recognisable voices across the world, but what if Amazon decided to change things up and go with one of The X Factor's biggest stars?

That's what the company told the world was happening today, as they allowed Rylan to record a video 'announcing the news'.

Return of the Tory: Former Conservative minister Rory Stewart took to his Twitter account today, revealing that he had been 'hired' as spin doctor for Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Having previously described Johnson as "the most accomplished liar in public life", it would take a monumental event and shift in opinion for this to actually become a reality!

A new Mayor of Manchester: "These politicians are useless and I think I could do a better job," John Fury, father to boxer Tyson Fury said to camera on Instagram before making the 'announcement' that he would be running for Mayor of Manchester.

Though some were actually excited by the proposition, he's now told his followers that it was all an elaborate gag!

Would you try it? Superdrug teamed up with Pro Care to reveal their new, tomato ketchup-flavoured toothpaste. Sounds horrendous, right? Still, we'd probably give it a try...
