Choosing a Prime Minister every 4 years is common for most Britons. 2017’s general election saw almost 70% of voters turnout; the highest turnout in 25 years.

It seems that Theresa May might not win a PM battle against Idris Elba

But although Theresa May kept her role as PM, it turns out that Idris Elba, Philip Schofield  and Tom Hardy are the top celebrity candidates who Britons would prefer to see in her place.

As part of ongoing research into celebrity culture and who Britons thought would be the best celebrity living at Number 10, a survey was conducted and revealed that there are a handful of celebrities that Brits would rather see in office.

2,365 Britons, all of whom were aged 18 and over, were quizzed about their opinions on the current Prime Minister.

Participants were asked to state which celebrity they would like to have as their Prime Minister if they had the choice. When provided with a long list of celebrities, respondents were told to select the top three celebrities they would prefer to have at 10 Downing Street. The top ten favourite celebrities were as follows:

Idris Elba – 21%

Philip Schofield – 18%

Richard Madden – 18%

Tom Hardy – 17%

Emma Watson – 15%

Michael Caine – 14%

John Boyega – 12%

Benedict Cumberbatch – 12%

Ant & Dec – 10%

Judy Dench – 7%

Asked if they ever realistically thought a celebrity would run for the role of Prime Minister, 88% stated that ‘no’ they don’t believe they would. Top reasons cited were found to be ‘everyone who becomes PM is disliked’ (37%) and ‘they likely don’t understand enough about politics’ (35%).

George Charles, spokesperson for www.MoneySavingHeroes.co.uk commented:

“It’s always fun to see who would win an election if it was celebrity was to run. Realistically, Idris Elba probably wouldn’t be able to do a better job than Theresa May, it is a complicated job that many of us don’t understand the full extent of, and it’s one that comes with a lot of pressure and emotions aimed at it. But I’m sure he’d likely have a much easier time to begin with than Theresa May has done.”
