A new survey has found that 1 in 10 Britons have cheated on their current partner who still doesn’t know. Over half of these respondents claimed the reason for not telling them was they loved their partner and didn’t want to lose them.

New research unveils Britons fessing up to serious relationship no no’s. A third of those surveyed admitted they have cheated on at least one partner before, and 1 in 10 Britons confessed to cheating on their current partner, who still doesn’t know.

The team behind www.MoneySavingHeroes.co.uk conducted the research as part of an ongoing study into Britons lifestyles.

Firstly, all respondents were asked “Have you ever cheated on a partner?” with just over a third (34%) admitting they had done so at least once before.

Relevant respondents were given a list of possible reasons as to why they haven’t told their current partner about their affair, when able to select all that applied, the top five reasons emerged as follows:

I still love my partner and do not want to lose them (53%)

I don’t want to lose economic security (43%)

I’m staying quiet for the children (36%)

My social circle would reject them (25%)

I do not feel like I need to tell them (19%)

When these respondents were asked if their infidelity was a continuous issue, 1 in 11 said it was.

Of the respondents who had not told their current partner, just 1 in 20 said they had plans of being honest in the future.

When all relevant participants were pressed on why they cheated, just over half said they were not feeling loved by their partner at the time and 22% said they were drunk.

It was found that 61% of those who cheated have no intentions of doing it again.

George Charles, spokesperson for www.MoneySavingHeroes.co.uk commented:

“It is not a surprise that in this day and age that cheating is so common, you can’t escape examples of cheating when watching reality TV and dating apps make it so much easier.

“It is good to see that the majority of people who have been faithful intend on remaining faithful and that those who have never cheated make up the majority of the population. People are beginning to think being unfaithful is normal, but it isn’t and we hope it never is. I also hope that those who have gone behind their partners back are honest with them at some point – keeping infidelity a secret is never okay.”
