Others use the skills and knowledge that they have been trained in to create a high-profile for themselves - taking their abilities to the next level.

Today we take a look at seven celebrity doctors. These are the famous faces who are primarily medical professionals, but went on to achieve celebrity status due to their hard work and expert knowledge.

Alex George

Dr Alex was a contestant on Love Island last year, but didn’t have much luck when it came to finding love in the villa.

We don’t think this bothered him too much, though, since leaving he has found love in his new relationship with Amelia Bath. The pair look very happy together in their Insta snaps.

Dr Alex, who was famously sunburnt for the duration of the 8 week season, is an A&E doctor. Since his rise to fame from his stint on the show he has landed himself a TV gig as health editor on Good Morning Britain, stepping in for Dr Hilary Jones when he isn’t available.

Dr Christian

Dr Christian Jessen is a physician, known mainly for his presenting role on the Channel 4 programmes, Embarrassing Bodies and Supersize vs Superskinny.

Studying at University College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine gave him extensive medical knowledge which has led his career to go down many paths, including presenting and writing.

Dr Christian’s knowledgeable interests don’t just stop there, either. He also has a strong passion for antique bronzes. He even the celebrity edition of the quiz show Antiques Master with this as his specialist subject.

Before achieving celebrity status, the now-author, presenter and television personality worked hard to earma BA in Psychology, then an MA in experimental psychology, and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas.

That’s a lot of studying.

Sarah Jarvis

Any frequent listeners of the Jeremy Vine show on BBC Radio 2 will know the name of Sarah Jarvis.

And for those who don’t - Sarah is a GP working in Shepherd’s Bush, but she has become a recognisable name through her involvement in the media promoting health.

She has been a qualified medical doctor for over three decades, since she graduated from the University of Oxford. Now, as well as being a GP, Sarah is also the health and medical reporter for The One Show and is a regular guest on the Jeremy Vine Show.

In the 2018 New Year’s honours list Dr Jarvis was awarded an MBE for services to general practice and public understanding of health.

Ben Carson

Here’s one that may surprise you…

You probably know Ben Carson as the American politician who ran for leader of the Republican party against Donald Trump. But did you know that he used to be a neurosurgeon?

Ben Carson graduated from Yale University and the University of Michigan Medical School, and went on to be a pioneer in neurosurgery. He is quite an extraordinary man. He was the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland for almost 30 years!

Some of his remarkable achievements include performing the only successful separation of conjoined twins joined at the back of the head, performing the first successful neurosurgical procedure on a fetus inside the womb, and becoming the youngest chief of pediatric neurosurgery in the country at the tender age of 33.

Chris Steele

Chris Steele is highly skilled in his profession, so much so, he has been awarded an MBE…

The hard-working and passionate doctor has been the resident doctor on ITV’s This Morning since the show began in 1988 - making him the only original and longest serving member of the This Morning team.

As well as a lengthy career as a medical professional and in broadcasting, Chris is an expert in smoking cessation and nicotine addiction.

Dr Ranj

Last, but certainly not least on our list of fascinating physicians is Dr Ranj.

Dr Ranjit Singh is a doctor, but has also gone on to further his career using his vast knowledge to become a television presenter, author and columnist.

Like Dr Chris Steele, he makes appearances on This Morning as a resident doctor, and also co-hosts the show Save Money: Good Health.

Last year he used his celebrity status as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.
