England have lost their three-match ODI series against India after suffering big defeats in the opening two matches.

The visitors started the first ODI pretty confidently as they bowled the hosts out for 202 with Sophie Ecclestone, Natalie Sciver and Georgia Elwiss picking up two wickets each.

However, India's bowlers got the better of England's batters as they were dismissed for 163 with Ekta Bisht leading the charge with four for 25.

In the second match, England once again struggled with the bat as they were dismissed for 161 in 42 overs with Sciver the lone star with 85. Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey shared eight wickets between them.

Smriti Mandhana then top scored with 63 as India chased down the target in 41.1 overs with only three wickets down.

Australia's dominance of the Rose Bowl continues as they have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in their three-match series against New Zealand.

It means it is two decades since New Zealand last won an ODI series against their neighbours as their last win was in February 1999.

The opener was a tight affair as the Southern Stars eked out a five-run win Jess Jonassen's brilliant all-round display proving to be the difference.

Batting first Australia were bowled out for 241 with Rachel Haynes top-scoring with 67 and Jonassen powering them to a respectable total with a 32-ball 36 late on. Sophie Devine picked up three for 34.

The chase was going well when Amy Satterthwaite made 92 and Katie Perkins scored 42, but a late collapse saw them fall short by five runs with Jonassen taking 4/43.

The Aussies dominated the second ODI as Ellyse Perry's maiden century (107 not out) propelled them to 247 for seven, and Jonassen then picked up her maiden five-for as her five for 27 helped the hosts to bowl out the Kiwis for 152.

The LPGA hit Thailand last week and it was Amy Yang who came out on top as she won by one stroke to secure her fourth LPGA Tour trophy, with three of those coming in Thailand.

The South Korean carded a final-round 65 to finish at 22-under-par 266, one ahead of Minjee Lee from Australia with Spain's Carlota Siganda another shot adrift in third. World No 1 Ariya Jutanugarn finished 14th at 10-under.

"I was honestly very nervous, especially last three holes," Yang said. "It was (a) tough hole to finish. I was really telling myself just (to) be patient, do (my) best at the time.

"I tried to stay calm and stayed patient out there. I just enjoy coming here. I love the golf course, which is why I always play well here."

The Ladies European Tour hit Australia for the Pacific Bay Resort Australian Ladies Classic – Bonville and Marianne Skarpnord walked away with the honours.

The Norwegian carded a final-round 69 for an eight-under-par 280 to finish two shots ahead of Australian Hannah Green and Nuria Iturrios of Spain.

"I’m delighted. I’m very, very happy because the last couple of years I’ve been struggling a bit and I haven’t been playing as well as I know I can," Skarpnord said after winning her first title in six years.

"I’ve had a great start to this year and it’s nice to see the hard work that I put in finally giving some good results."

As for this week's big tournament, the HSBC Women’s World Championship, 2009 Women’s British Open winner Catriona Matthew as well as LPGA rookie Muni He will be teeing off in Singapore after accepting invitations from sponsor HSBC.

"I’m excited to return to Singapore to compete in this year’s HSBC Women’s World Championship and I am very grateful to HSBC for this invite," Matthew said.

"It is such a great event in one of my favourite cities with a world class field gathered so I am looking forward to what will be a fantastic week. I have been working hard on my game and am feeling refreshed after the Christmas break so can’t wait to return to Sentosa later this month."

Football

It was a big one on Saturday as Arsenal and Manchester City went head-to-head in the Women's League Cup at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, and it was City who lifted the trophy after 120 minutes and penalties.

It finished 0-0 after 90 minutes and the two teams couldn't be separated during extra time either, but there had to be a winner and City won 4-2 on penalties.

England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley was the star as she saved two penalties during the shootout.

"When it comes to penalties, or the big moments, KB shows why she’s so world-class," City and England captain Steph Houghton said. "We’ve played together for the last five years and longer at international level and you feel safe as a defender."

England are off to the United States this week for the SheBelieves Cup, featuring the US, Brazil and Japan, but they will be without Jill Scott as the Manchester City midfielder withdrew from the squad "in order to manage her return to full fitness ahead of this summer's World Cup".

Orlando Pride forward Chioma Ubogagu will replace Scott in the England squad.

The Women's Six Nations resumed on Saturday and Italy stunned Ireland 29-27 in the first match of the weekend.

Flanker Giada Franco scored two tries while Michela Sillari added nine points with the boot as the hosts claimed their first-ever win over Ireland and continued their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Defending champions France, who were hammered by England last time out, got back on track as they trounced Wales 41-10.

Centre Gabrielle Vernier notched up a hat-trick and scrum-half Pauline Bourdon scored a try and added four conversions during the one-sided match in Lille.

In the final match on Sunday, England kept their Grand Slam hopes alive as they brushed aside Wales 51-12 in Cardiff with the impressive Sarah Bern causing a lot of damage.

Prop Bern and wing Jess Breach both scored twice as England ran in nine tries.

Tennis

Belinda Bencic was the big winner on the court this week as the Swiss star claimed her first title since August 2015 when she beat Petra Kvitova in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships final.

And how does she plan on celebrating? Oh, just a little bit of skydiving in Dubai.

Off the court, Serena Williams has had a pretty impressive 48 hours as the latest Nike "Dream Crazier" ad aired during the 2019 Oscars for the first time.

And then during the Oscars itself, Serena introduced A Star Is Born.
