For centuries, women have had to play second fiddle to men in various industries, but times are definitely changing. The internet landscape has brought about more equality than ever, and some sectors are beginning to witness a female dominance.

This is certainly the case in live streaming, where some of the biggest industries have women at the forefront. Online casinos, for example, find that many players prefer to see female dealers. Then, there are hugely successful Twitch streamers like Pokimane.

Live casinos are dominated by female dealers

The online casino sector was one of the first areas of online entertainment to incorporate live streaming. It was introduced way back in the early 2010s and acted as a way to bring players closer to the games. There’s no doubt that this tech ups the immersion levels massively and makes players at home feel like they’ve stepped into a real casino.

The experience is enhanced by the fact that players are faced with smartly dressed, smiling dealers who are ready to host the games. Aside from choosing between a range of games, players can see the dealers available and select one. The live dealers at SkyCity are predominantly women, suggesting that this is what players prefer. People who want to log on and play offerings like Lightning Blackjack and Speed Roulette may find that female dealers are more welcoming and friendly. Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that women are finding more success than men on this career path.

Some of the biggest streamers in the world are female

Around the same time that online casinos started offering live streaming, Twitch was emerging as another major pioneer of the technology. The streaming service was conceived in 2011 and, by 2014, it was sold to Amazon for just under $1 billion. Aside from being a highly lucrative platform in itself, it has also made thousands of streamers rich beyond their wildest dreams.

Many of the world’s most popular Twitch streamers are female, and Pokimane is the greatest success story. The 26-year-old gamer is the most followed woman on the platform, with 8.3 million subscribers. Her videos have received 795 million views, and she won the Twitch Streamer of the Year award at the 10th Shorty Awards in 2018.

Pokimane isn’t the only one showing that women can cut it at the top in the streaming industry either. There’s a long list of world-renowned female streamers that includes Ironmouse, Valkyrae, Shylily, and Amouranth. Influencer Marketing Hub has pointed out that women are starting to lead a shift in tide, and their 35 per cent base on Twitch is growing. This is thanks to well-known faces at the top inspiring others to get involved.

In the future, live streaming is set to get even bigger and better as it integrates with new technology like virtual reality. The platform is still in its early stages, and the fact that women are already finding such great success on it is promising. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the scales tipped in the next decade, with females becoming the dominant demographic of streamers.
