Cravendale Build Christmas Tree from Straws

Cravendale Build Christmas Tree from Straws

Norwegian Spruce? Forget it. Silver plastic pine? No thanks. A Christmas tree made up of over half a kilometre of drinking straws? EPIC! That’s the opinion of one young girl who saw her Christmas dream come true today with an ex-straw-dinary festive surprise at the V&A Museum of Childhood.

The giant straw Christmas tree was crafted by Cravendale after they received a heart-warming drawing and Christmas wish from five-year-old Grace Davies.

Infatuated with Cravendale’s EPIC Straws kits, the inventive Grace sent an extravagant design for a truly unique tree to the boss of the Leeds-based milk brand suggesting they try and build it – which low and behold, and bowled over by her polite and super-sweet letter, they went and did.

Lifted straight from Grace’s design, the tree measures a colossal 21ft in height, is made up of more than 12,000 plastic straws and can have over 50 litres of milk flow through it at any one time.

In addition it features a special ‘Santa Milk’ tap at the bottom to dispense the good stuff – something that really captured the imagination of big wigs at Cravendale.

Brand manager Sophie Macaulay said, “Grace’s idea to build a Christmas tree out of EPIC Straws was brilliant; and given she asked us so nicely we felt we had to take the challenge on.

“When we launched the straws on-pack promotion this was exactly the sort of creativity we expected to see, and kids from across the UK have been building all sorts of weird and wonderful things out of them. We’re sure visitors to the Museum of Childhood will love the installation”.

Grace said, “This is the best Christmas tree ever – it’s awesome. I love playing with the straws and me and my dad have so much fun making things together with them.

“Because it’s nearly Christmas I thought a tree would be the perfect thing to make, but I can’t believe how big this is.”
