Steak featured quite highly on the list

Whilst many people have favourite dishes and comfort foods to suit various occasions, a new survey was conducted to investigate what Britons would be most likely to eat if they knew the meal was to be the last of their life.

www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk polled a total of 1,837 UK adults for the purposes of the study, and asked them to choose their top three preferences for each course from a list of 150 varied starters, main courses and desserts.

The results of the study emerged as follows:

Top Three Starters:

  1. Scallops- (21%)
  2. Pate and crusty bread- (13%)
  3. Garlic bread with cheese- (7%)

Top Three Main Courses:

  1. Steak and chips- (18%)
  2. Roast Beef with all the trimmings (roast potatoes, carrots, Yorkshire pudding etc) - (12%)
  3. Chicken curry, naan bread, pilau rice and poppadams- (6%)

Dessert:

  1. Sticky toffee pudding with custard- (14%)
  2. Chocolate brownie and ice cream- (11%)
  3. Lemon meringue pie- (4%)

Of all the respondents polled, 66% claimed that they would prefer to eat something familiar that they would be guaranteed to enjoy for their last meal, rather than something extravagant that they had never tried before.

Regarding the drinks that would most preferably be consumed during a last meal, the majority of respondents would choose an alcoholic beverage to accompany their food. The top tipples emerged as red wine, lager, vodka and whiskey.

George Charles, spokesperson for www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, made the following comments regarding the findings of the survey:

“I must admit, the food-lover in me has pondered the thought of what I would choose to eat for my last meal on earth on numerous occasions, and I have most definitely changed my mind a few times when trying to work out the answer.

“I think it’s an interesting sign that comforting, and carb-filled foods such as cheesy garlic bread and sticky toffee pudding made it so high up the list. It’s also very telling that a chicken curry with its accompaniments made it to third place on our list; a true national staple!”
