Brits Ditch Set Meals in Favour of Grazing

Back in ye oldie days there used to be a routine when it came to eating our meals, we’d have breakfast, lunch and dinner, but now that’s all changing.

Instead of having our three set meals, we’re now grazing our way through the day instead.

This grazing habit is also proving that we’re becoming much more unhealthy and instead of snacking on fruit and veg we’re hitting the crisps and chocolate.

Shockingly, most of us are choosing to skip the most important meal of the day, breakfast, altogether!

Reto Frei, CEO of tibits vegetarian restaurant, which conducted the study of 2,000 adults said, “Busy lifestyles can get in the way of a more balanced diet.

“In many cases people aren’t deliberately opting for less wholesome food choices, but simply lack the ability to forward plan.

“It is often easier to pick up a snack on the way from A to B, than sit down and have a proper meal. But it is still possible to be healthy on the run, and not all snacks are bad for you.”

Worryingly, a fifth of people admitted that the weekends were the worst for them when it came to eating proper meals.

It was a diet of liquids for most, due to Friday and Saturday night drinking sessions. They then admitted they would soak up the alcohol with greasy fry-ups.

Government guidelines say we should be eating at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day but most of us fail to hit that target.

Fish and eggs are also recommended to keep you in shape and healthy, although many of us aren’t eating anywhere near enough.

One of the worst habits that Brits have acquired is overdoing it on the salt. A fifth of Brits admitted to heavily salting their food after it has been served before even tasting it!

Due to our lives being so ‘on the go’ we’re often resorting to shop bought smoothies as well as cereal bars as snacks but most of these contain hidden sugars and aren’t as good for you as they appear.

Reto Frei added, “Brits would be better off avoiding processed foods and eating more naturally grown alternatives instead.

“You can’t go wrong with vegetables – you know where they have come from, there aren’t any hidden ingredients and they are packed with vitamins and minerals, and best of all they taste great.”
