The 51-year-old comedian was asked by Hello Games to have first play of their new title, 'No Man's Sky', and then share his thoughts with the world.

Bill is a big gaming fan, a past time he enjoys with his son Dax, so when the British video games developer approached him about the project he jumped at the chance.

Speaking to What Culture Bill explained: "Well the thing is, because I'm into games and gaming - I take my son to game conventions and those sorts of things - I was aware of it already.

"So when they approached me about it, I thought "Of course!", because it's such an extraordinary game, it's almost got this 'next generational' thing, y'know?"

The game takes place within an almost infinite galaxy and you earn the "units" needed to buy things by selling resources or uploading data on the planets you've visited in a game of trippy exploration.

Much to Bill's delight you can also name the planets you discover, and he went for the obvious choice.

Bill said: "The planets, yeah! Oh yeah, I've got one - Billtopia! (laughs)."

The funny man certainly seems to have enjoyed his experience testing out the new game, and likens it to 'Minecraft'.

He explained: "For me it's like, my son is a massive Minecraft fan, and that's in a similar vein as you're sort of creating your own world.

"That's very much like you're mining and creating, but it reminded me a little bit of that, because there's an infinite amount of possibilities and choices y'know? It's the same with this, you can pick any dot of light in this massive universe and you look at it, you zoom in on it and you get closer, and you realise it's a star system so there's loads of planets!"

'No Man's Sky' was released for Playstation 4 on 9 August.
