There have been rumours for some time now that Crash Bandicoot would be making his return to the world of gaming, but something that nobody saw coming would be that he'd make his comeback in such an odd way.

Instead of an all-new Bandicoot game, the world-famous character will be a part of upcoming title Skylanders Imaginators, which invites players to create their own Skylanders and send them straight into the action.

Announced at E3, Activision also revealed they'd be bringing back Crash in fully remastered versions of his first three games - Crash Bandicoot; Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back; and Crash Bandicoot: Warped.

Planned for release in 2017, the three titles will be exclusive to PlayStation 4.

CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc., Eric Hirshberg commented: "For years, we've been asked 'when is Crash returning?', and today that question has been answered. Activision is proud to celebrate the iconic character's 20-year anniversary by bringing him back in ways that will appeal to hardcore fans as well as introduce him to a new generation of gamers.

"We can't wait for gamers to see Crash bring his unique style and quirky personality to the epic battle against Kaos in Skylanders Imaginators.

"And next year, we'll expand on the Crash experience for players with remastered versions of three classic games."
