Epic Games is launching legal action against Apple and Google in the UK.

The studio took the action after both tech giants removed 'Fortnite' from their smartphone app stores amid a dispute over the amount they took from sales of the games on their platforms.

Epic said in a statement: "We believe that this is an important argument to make on behalf of consumers and developers in the UK and around the world who are impacted by Apple and Google's misuse of market power."

The company - which has already taken legal action in the US and Australia - has accused the tech companies of breaching UK competition laws.

Epic's unhappiness focuses on the 30 percent cut the tech companies take from the sales of the games.

However, Epic Games is not seeking a financial payout. Instead, the company wants Google and Apple to reinstate Epic's software and accounts, as well as to allow developers to use their own payment-processing systems in their online stores.

In response to the recent claims, Google said: "The open Android ecosystem lets developers distribute apps through multiple app stores. For game developers who choose to use the Play Store, we have consistent policies that are fair to developers and keep the store safe for users."
