EA Sports has launched the 'FIFA 21' PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S free upgrade early.

The upgrade - which allows existing players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to upgrade to respective next generation console versions - has dropped a day earlier than expected.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S editions are set to be released on December 4, but players on those consoles can now play if they have their last-gen copy.

To get the next-gen version, gamers should log into their new console with the platform account associated with the previous copy of 'FIFA 21'.

If you head to your game library, you should see an icon for the free upgrade, which you can buy - for free - and download.

EA Sports previously explained how Ultimate Team and Volta progress will carry over to the next-gen title, but nothing else will.

They said: "When we start developing for a new generation of consoles, there's ultimately some trade-offs we need to make.

"So we decided that the time required to make all modes transferable was better used to build new features and improvements across the entire game, along with addressing feedback from our players.

"Since both Volta and FUT are server-based modes it made sense for us to focus on them as a way for players to carry over their progression."
